José James returns to LPR with an allstar band to celebrate the 10th Anniversary re-release of his sophomore album “Blackmagic” on Rainbow Blonde Records. Featuring lo-fi hip-hop production from legendary producers Flying Lotus, Moodymann and Taylor McFerrin, Blackmagic saw James embracing his role as “the Jazz singer for the hip-hop generation.” Highlights include the Soulquarian meets Curtis Mayfield vibe of “Code,” the Moodymann-produced Marvin Gaye tribute “Detroit Loveletter” and the spaced out jazz meets hip-hop of “Blackmagic.” Across 13 songs James throws down the gauntlet and takes a soulful journey into the history of Black music, skillfully connecting the dots between soul, R&B hip-hop and London’s brokenbeat and dubstep movements.

Singer, songwriter, producer and record label owner Taali is a teller and lover of stories. Her music, described as “a beguiling mix of layered vocals, chamber pop, avant-electronica, and quiet storm,” addresses identity, love, and overcoming trauma. After a decade of writing for other artists, she released her debut album “I Am Here” on her own Rainbow Blonde Records, earning critical acclaim and touring worldwide. She quickly followed up with acoustic EP “Were Most Of Your Stars Out?” and its companion EP, “Were You Busy Writing Your Heart Out?” Taali’s music weaves a landscape drawing from the empowering Judaic culture of her family and the uplifting stories of the fierce women she surrounds herself with.
